Hey everyone, I have some questions about my state vehicle inspection. My car's inspection is coming up in a couple of weeks, and I'm a bit concerned about a few things. First, the check engine light came on briefly last month, then went off, but I'm worried it might have stored codes that could cause a fail. Also, I've noticed a strange humming noise from the front wheel. Has anyone experienced these kinds of issues before an inspection, and how did it turn out?

It's smart to ask your questions about my state vehicle inspection beforehand. The check engine light can be tricky; sometimes clearing the code works if it was a false alarm, but stored codes can definitely cause a failure, even if the light isn't currently on. You might want to get the codes read at an auto parts store – many do it for free. For the humming noise, that almost sounds like a wheel bearing, which is something many inspection stations would definitely flag as a safety concern. My friend's car failed recently because of a loud exhaust vehicle inspection stations , which also needed to be repaired before he could pass.
